Poco dopo l’alba l’artigliere Sante Pelosin, detto Tarcisio, fa partire il primo colpo di cannone contro una colonna tedesca che avanza verso le posizioni italiane. Nelle settimane successive circa ventimila soldati italiani decidono di non arrendersi e di aderire alla Resistenza jugoslava. I partigiani della divisione Garibaldi raccontati in questo documentario sono eroi semplici, che hanno combattuto il freddo, la fame e una devastante epidemia di tifo, pagando con tremende sofferenze una scelta di campo consapevole e coraggiosa.
