It is a region rich in valuable natural resources, where bloody conflicts over ethnic and economic issues have been raging for three decades, devastating eastern Congo. Two members of the La Lucha civil society movement decide to abandon activism in favour of a career in politics. Espoir, a young activist, stands as a candidate for the National Assembly on behalf of the opposition. Sankara who, confined to a wheelchair, has become a symbol of resistance, joins the outgoing president’s coalition. When rebel troops from the M23 group enter Goma, their dreams of democracy are thrown into doubt.
